The Ithaka residential project is located in the Dutch town of Almere and represents a highpoint in urban development. The complex is designed in a terraced style comprising 110 interwoven condominiums on three sides and a canal, all of which enclose a large, park-like interior courtyard. The residents view their Natural Pool as an absolute highlight in the landscaped garden. It is accessible to everyone, no shoes required, and is used extensively every day. The Olympic-sized swimming area rests like a channel in the landscape and rises, sharp-edged, up out of the undulating ground on one end. The regeneration zones and plant filters are nestled along the organic curves encircling the concrete construction. A poker-straight wooden walkway spans the pool. A stairway provides access from here to the swimming area along its entire width and offers welcome seating in and around the water. The directly adjacent children’s pool provides a complete swimming experience for the whole family.
