The OPEN HOUSE initiative (http://www.openhouseworldwide.org) was established in London in 1992 to make architecture freely accessible to the public: The goal is to let everyone understand and experience how good architecture works. 30 cities are participating with events this year, with volunteers guiding interested visitors through exceptional buildings. Private apartments and houses, educational institutions, office complexes as well as commercial and industrial buildings are on display, and many architects will be performing specialized tours. The BIOTOP headquarters were designed by architect Georg Reinberg, who is renowned for his ecologically friendly designs. Its outside is constructed of wood and glass, with a massive Trombe wall on the inside. The glass wall to the south provides a view onto several natural pools that visitors are welcome to swim in. Please bring a bathing suit; registration is not required.
